It has come to my attention that a few members here are being approached by another member here (yes, I know exactly who you are) via PM about buying a DVD copy of STOGAM that he has made from the 3 acts and the extra videos we have put out.

The sale of ANY material produced by Renegade Studios via an unlicensed 3rd party Is ILLEGAL!!!!! We will go after anyone who attempt to make a profit on our hard work! This is a slap in the face to all those on the crew who have worked their heart out over the past 2 years on this film to have others attempt to profit by this. This is one of the main reasons we followed New Voyages (this person is also selling NV DVD's, so I'm told) policy about not putting an ISO DVD image online to prevent Illegal profiting from DVD sales.

Bottom line, if you are buying a DVD of STOGAM from a unlicensed source you are commiting a felony.

We will be dealing with this person in due course.

Over the past 2 weeks since Act 3 has come out I have recieved tons of emails asking about an official DVD release. We are actually working over (tweaking) the current film in several areas turning it into a complete film. We are looking into various ways to bring you an official DVD. One of the main issues is simply the fact that Star Trek is licensed by CBS so they need to license the film so it can be sold on DVD, or buy it and distribute it themselves. The film can also be an extra on some type of future Star Trek SE or box set DVD's. There are a few other solutions we are looking at. We will have more about STOGAM on DVD soon.

-Thanks

This is TRULY shameful, and goes against EVERYTHING that Star Trek stands for. Whoever this person is - and I rather doubt there's only one - s/he should be hit with the full force of the law. The same goes for anybody STUPID enough to buy a copy of the pirated DVDs. Really, people!!! Have you no conscience, any of you??!!

As for my new friends at ST:OGaM...this was probably unavoidable, but it's shameful nonetheless. Please, PLEASE, PLEASE don't let it take away from the knowledge that you've created a wonderful tribute to Gene Roddenberry and Star Trek in all its permutations...or from the incredible high you've all gotten from knowing "we done good!"

I hate to learn that a person has stolen (as I call this) your work in order to make money with it. And I hate to learn there are people who pay money to this person - that's what I'd call stupid. Perhaps with a limit: Most fan films (or independent production) are provided as free downloads. In those cases it's a smut to burn these to DVDs and sell them. And it's more than stupid to buy something that's available for free.

As for ST:OGAM, I'm not sure if it's that simple. Is the person in question really a bad guy seller who has stolen your work? Or did a few members just ask him to make copies because they can't watch flash-stream-stuff? I mean this forum is full of comments saying so. But they just couldn't wait to enjoy your work, because they're real fans. And how much did they pay? A big bad profit to the seller or just a substitute of material and shipping costs?

Pardon, there are comments at this forum asking about DVDs or at least downloads since Act 1 has come out. And all they read here over the past months was "there won't be downloadable versions and or DVDs".

Which is a completely new information. All I read before was "we don't have plans to provide it other than via DragonFly" and "that's a producer's decision". But nice to learn you changed your mind.

However, I'm a fan too, I can't wait to see your movie too and I can't (better: won't) watch it as a flash stream too. BUT: I would never buy your movie from someone you didn't permit to sell it. And there's no trouble that would give someone the right to sell it. I can dislike the producers decision to provide the movie only via stream. But I do respect it. Because if I would produce a film, I'd want my decisions to be respected, too.

Best,

if it's playing on the net it can be downloaded and turned into a dvd how people who do that with fan movies (even one as good as this one) and still call themselves fans is beyond me.

will we get a dvd come out eventually?
surely paramount could let you sell it for 'cost' and take a profit?that way they get cash for free and we get something we can watch on the tv ( I only have a small screen:))

Problem with doing a Trek Fan film is that CBS/Paramount has copyright over items, images & names belonging to Star Trek, you have the copyright to all other material in the film. So while you would have no problem distributing your material (on DVD or otherwise) it is the things in the film that relate to Star Trek that prohibit its distribution for profit without an agreement by CBS/Paramount.

@#$%#&!!!

Set Phasers on Deep Fat Fry!

To say that I'm disappointed is an understatement. I can only imagine how those involved directly with STOGAM feel. (regarding the illegal DVD, just so it's clear exactly what I'm responding to)

i can understand making your own copy's or asking a friend to make you one and paying for the DVD-R , but selling them and making money off it is just wrong

I was approached about this, and I agreed to buy it for the cost of making it, having every intention of also buying a legitimate dvd if one ever came out.

i felt that that way I was not harming the wonderful folks who have made STOGAM.

(I didn't get a copy, rather the fellow selling them said he had been told not to do so.)

The reason I wanted a dvd is it is painful to try and watch this over the web. Even the low res version constantly pauses. I did manage to see the whole thing, but I am sure it would be a whole different experience to see it with out constant pausing.

Since it is licensed why sell it? It only makes sense to do what New Voyages does, put it up for a free download..combine all 3 parts into one movie and just let people download it..it is as simple as that. If it is put up to be viewed free of charge then it can be copied free of charge...but besides that, it was made just for the sheer enjoyment of star trek so why not let them be downloaded free as such..

I'll add that the guy selling the DVD is apparently really a crook, not someone offering it for copying costs. He is Dan Armitage <fanfilmfixes@hotmail.co.uk>. He's never refunded my paypal payment despite two promises to do so.

Sooooo...

...the Official release is gonna have an audio commentary track, right? Because I didn't see one listed on the list of things that are gonna be on the DVD.

Audio commentary PLEASE! Shouldn't be that difficult to do.

Wow, I didn't reallize that it was a big deal! I must say, that yes, I did download all three videos, and I put it on a DVD for personal viewing. If I have infringed on anyone's rights, I do appologize!! I did this, for two reasons. #1, as I mentioned, was for personal viewing. #2, was for a proof of concept. I wanted to see if it could be done, and with what difficulty. I have not sold, nor am I selling any DVDs or otherwise distributing this film. To one friend who did not want to give out his email address, I sent him the link to the website where the movie can be played/viewed.

If the producers are trying to track me down, let me save you the trouble. Again, I did not think it was a problem. I have destroyed my physical DVD copy of this video, and am willing to shred my ISO image, that I saved, upon written request from the producers of this film, (via postal or electronic mail). I have included my full information in my registering for this forum.

Subject to my available time and resources, I am willing to cooperate with the producers, and or those designated by said producers, to disclose how I did this, and work to prevent it from being done by others, if desired, to the extent I am able.

Again, my sincere appologies for any problems this might create or that might have been created.

Sincerely,

Aaron.

No worries Arron, a few people have been able to put the streamed film on DVD. It's the people that are trying to sell them that we will go after.

Oh, well, in that case, could you kindly un-blacklist me from being able to watch the videos. I haven't been able to do so in my home, for over 2 Months. Three different computers, using two different web browers each (Mac + Safari, Mac + Firefox 3, PC + Internet Explorer 7, PC + Firefox 3), and none of them can watch the video. Every time, it gets to deteching optimal stream speed, or some such thing. Then it sits there for hours, without playing. When I try to go directly to the flv video, I get an http 404 error. Am I the only one with this problem? Perhaps I'm blacklisted?

No, you aren't the only one with this problem. I've never been able to see more than about 4 minutes of the first act, act two starts but stops at the beginning explosion, and act 3 never even starts. It's like this on 7 different computers and 3 different OS, so like you - I can determine it's not a software or hardware issue on MY side that's causing it, it definitely is something on the delivery side that's causing it.

I've asked for help on the forums and have even written directly for tech support by email but to no avail - none of my replies have been answered. If I am being blacklisted for complaining, the LEAST they could do (and the polite thing) would be to calmly and patiently tell me to go away. Ignoring requests for help is really bad tech, and I hate bad tech.

Nope you are not the only one. I have not been able to watch anything since the trailer..we can only hope that they will release a dvd so the majority of the public can watch it. The best thing would be to allow high resolution parts to be downloaded. I guess maybe they have had so much trouble with this that is the reason why they are not going to make another one. I mean it was about 6 months or more behind schedule..all kinds of things that could have been avoided with some careful planning.

Well I watched a bit of the movie on Youtube and that got me interested ! But after that I bought it with 'Inalienable' from the Renegade club store . It's only $20 and postage ($5.50?) . I don't know why it's such a big deal to try and scrounge for this terrific movie ? A site called piratebay has the full copy for a torrent download , but if we don't do the right thing then Renegade Studios couldn't offer this 100% homegrown trek to us at all .

I believe the piratebay folks are on their way to jail, and the site is about to be cleaned up by the new owners.
