For each type of computer platform there can be none [the wise iddiots haven't discovered them to write a virus for it yet] to many hundreds of thousands [ibm-pc-microsoft-etc stuff]
NONE will affect any CHIPS you have inserted in your computer.
THE ONLY THING THEY CAN EFFECT is software or hard drive formatting [hard drive formatting is done through software] OR remove any FLASH DRIVE MEMORY [the new flash drives uses a chip and software puts the info on that chip and a virus can remove all the stored info from that chip as it can any flash ram you have BUT IT CAN'T DAMAGE THE CHIP ITSELF]
Virus can trash your OS [operating system]
COMPUTERS THAT HAVE THE OS CHIP BUILT INTO THE COMPUTER will only loose software.
ALL OTHER COMPUTERS [DOS = Disk Operating System will loose the operating system] if the virus is not killed fast enough.
BUT not all virus do that much damage. MOST of them just want to send email all over the world to playing games with your mind & or money [ENCRIPT YOUR DATA & YOU PAY TO GET IT BACK]
MANY just open up {BACKDOORS} so others can walk in and download everything they like from stored music to movies to pictures to your banking records.
